Facilities;

The Kgalagadi transfortier park is located in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, sandwiched between Namibia and Botswana. It’s around 10 hours’ drive from Johanesburg with similar travel times from Cape Town, Windhoek in Namibia and Gabarone in Botswana.

Nossob is one of three main camps in the Kgalagadi located at its centre. It is around 4 hours drive from the southern park entrance; Twee Rivieren and 4 hours from Mata Mata.

Nossob has 20 standard campsites with shared facilities and 9 premium ones with private.

The normal stands are basic, fairly crowded and quite small. This is definitely not a bush camp.

All sites have a braai (bbq), bin and watertaps nearby. Where there aren’t any trees, there are a few basic shelters. Some sites don’t have electricity.

The shared ablutions are fairly old but serviced daily and clean. There are hot water showers, flushing toilets and a scullery.

Nossob has a fuel station, reception and basic shop. Electricity at the camp is only available from 6 in the morning ‘till 10 at night. There is no mobile reception.

There is also a hide at Nossob that residents can access 24-7.

Look out for raptors during the day and wildcats or even leopards at night.

The premium campsites are a completely different story. The 9 units are generously spaced and feature private ablutions. The ablutions have sculleries, solar heated showers and flushing toilets. There is also a caravan AC powepoint, bin and braai (bbq).

Most of the stands are located against the fence. Unit 8 is the most private. Sites are allocated on a first come first serve basis.

As Nossob is quite popular you need to book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

As it’s a popular destination and stopover, Nossob’s roads are usually quite badly corrugated. Don’t let this stop you getting out to some really great waterholes in the area though.

At rooikop and marie se gat you can usually expect, wildebeest, gemsbok and springbok.

The Kgalagadi is also well known for its raptors so always keep an eye on the tree tops as well.

Then of course Nossob is usually a good spot for lion sightings around dusk or dawn.

Cubitjie Quab is one of my favorite waterholes

Here you can usually expect large flocks of sand grouses and some clever jackals that have figured out how to snatch them.

Nossob’s central location makes it a convenient base from where you can explore many areas of the park. It is definitely my favourite main camp.
