Sondela
Nature Reserve is in the Waterberg region of Limpopo province. It’s around 2 hours drive from Johannesburg and the closest town is Bela-Bela.

Tambuki 4×4
is a bush camp located at the foot of a rocky outcrop in a secluded section of Sondela. It consists of 5 campsites with shared ablutions, lapa and braai area. It is a bush camp so don’t expect any luxuries or entertainment facilities, those can be found at the main camp.

  • Site 1 is fairly private but with only afternoon shade
  • Sites 2 and 3 are adjacent and medium-sized with all-day shade.
  • Site 4 is a larger site with a large Marula tree for shade.
  • Sites 2,3 and 4 are ideally suited for larger groups if booked together.
  • Site 5 is the furthest from other sites but is next to the ablutions.

The sites share a lapa (shelter), firepit and a single braai (bbq). The shared facilities are nestled at the base of the koppie (rocky outcrop).

The ablutions are fairly rustic. There are 2 toilets with basins and 3 open-air showers. The showers aren’t the most private so probably best to arrange turns.

Hot water is provided with a “donkey”, a fire water heater. This one takes ages to get hot so be sure to light the fire early. Wood is provided for the donkey.

Most of Sondela is gravel roads with thick sand tracks to the camp. These tracks are only suited for high-clearance vehicles and off-road trailers or caravans, I would recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle for towing. Expect ruts and water holes if it’s been raining as well.

For the less adventurous there are many different types of accommodation including a caravan park.

Activities in Sondela include game drives, hiking, mountain biking, quad rides and many more. See their website for more details.
